Yoga in Exminster – Hatha Flow at Victory Hall

If you’re looking for yoga in Exminster, I teach a friendly weekly Hatha Flow class every Tuesday evening at Exminster Victory Hall.

I love teaching yoga within the village. There is something particularly lovely about being able to step away from your usual Tuesday routine, come to a familiar local venue and spend an hour moving, breathing and giving your attention back to yourself.

Whether you are completely new to yoga, returning after some time away or already have an established practice, you are very welcome to join us.

Yoga in Exminster with Anne Harrison

My Tuesday evening yoga class in Exminster is a Hatha-based flow class designed to be adaptable for different bodies and levels of experience.

You don’t need to be flexible to practise yoga, and there isn’t one particular way that a yoga posture has to look.

Instead, I encourage you to explore how a movement or posture feels in your own body.

Throughout the class, I’ll offer different options, variations and ways of using props so that you can choose the version that works best for you.

Some practices are a little stronger and more dynamic, while others are slower and more restorative. Although my classes are primarily Hatha-based, I also bring in elements of Vinyasa Flow, Yin and Restorative yoga where they complement what we are exploring.

There is always room to slow something down, take a softer option or rest.

Equally, if you have been practising for some time, there are opportunities to explore more challenging variations.

Small, friendly yoga classes in Exminster

I deliberately keep my Exminster yoga classes small.

There are a maximum of nine spaces, which means I can see how everyone is moving and offer individual guidance and alternatives where appropriate.

It also helps create the relaxed and friendly atmosphere that I want my classes to have.

Yoga can sometimes feel intimidating when you’re starting out, particularly if your idea of yoga comes from photographs of people performing very advanced postures!

That’s not what my classes are about.

You’ll find people with different levels of experience, mobility, strength and flexibility practising together.

There is no expectation that everyone in the room should be doing exactly the same thing.

Making yoga work for your body

One of the ideas I come back to frequently in my teaching is that the posture should work for your body rather than trying to make your body fit the posture.

That might mean using a yoga block to bring the floor closer to you, using a strap to give your arms a little more reach or using a bolster or blanket to provide additional support.

Props can also be used to explore a posture more deeply or introduce an additional challenge.

They aren’t simply something we use when we can’t do a pose.

All the equipment you need for my Exminster classes is provided, so you don’t need to buy a yoga mat or arrive carrying lots of equipment.

You can simply come along and practise.

Five weeks, one yoga theme

Rather than teaching a completely unrelated yoga class every week, I usually work around a theme for approximately five weeks.

This gives us time to explore an aspect of yoga in much more depth.

A theme might focus on a particular area of the body, such as the hips, shoulders or spine; a group of postures, such as balances or backbends; or a broader idea from yoga philosophy.

The flow develops around that theme, giving you the opportunity to revisit movements and notice how your experience changes.

Yoga doesn’t necessarily progress in a straight line. Some weeks a posture may feel easier, while another week your body might be asking you to do less.

Both experiences are part of the practice.

You don’t have to attend all five weeks. Each class can be enjoyed individually, so you can drop in when it suits you.

However, attending regularly gives you the opportunity to become familiar with the flow, explore different variations and see how your practice develops over time.

Continue your yoga practice at home

Many of the five-week themes I teach in Exminster and Topsham eventually become yoga flows on my website.

I use the same sequences we’ve explored together in class so you can return to them at home.

This can be particularly helpful if you’d like to practise between classes or revisit a flow after we’ve moved on to our next theme.

You’ll find practices exploring mobility, strength, balance, relaxation and different areas of the body, alongside some of the ideas from yoga philosophy that we discuss in class.

Yoga at Exminster Victory Hall

Exminster Victory Hall provides a lovely community setting for our Tuesday evening classes.

Being based within the village means the class is particularly convenient if you live in Exminster or the surrounding Exeter area and would prefer a local yoga class rather than travelling into the city centre.

It’s also a wonderfully simple way to make yoga part of your week: one hour where there is nothing else you need to be doing.

You can move.

You can breathe.

You can pay attention to how your body feels.

And, at the end, there is always time to slow things down before you head home.

More than a yoga class

For me, yoga is part of a much wider approach to health and wellbeing.

Alongside teaching yoga, I am a Nutritional Therapist and Wellbeing Coach, and much of my work explores the connections between movement, nutrition, stress, sleep, recovery and our everyday habits.

That doesn’t mean you need to be interested in all of those things to come to class!

But it does influence the way I teach.

I’m interested in helping people develop a yoga practice that supports their body and their wider wellbeing rather than simply achieving increasingly difficult postures.

I also offer private one-to-one yoga sessions for anyone who would like more individual support.

These can be particularly useful if you’re new to yoga, would like to understand postures and props before joining a group, want to work towards a particular goal or would like a practice tailored to your individual needs.

Looking for yoga in Exminster?

If you’ve been thinking about trying yoga but haven’t quite made it through the door yet, you don’t need to wait until you’re fitter or more flexible.

You don’t need to know the names of the postures.

You don’t need to be able to touch your toes.

And you don’t need to keep up with anyone else in the room.

My Exminster yoga classes are designed to give you options so you can find a way of practising that works for you.

Come along, give yourself an hour away from everything else and see how yoga feels in your body.
