Restorative Yoga in Exeter

In the whirlwind of modern life, finding moments of peace and restoration is essential for our overall wellbeing. Amid the constant demands of daily life, restorative yoga offers a gentle sanctuary a calming practice designed to help you slow down, release tension, and reconnect with yourself.

A Gentle Practice for Deep Relaxation

Restorative yoga is a deeply nourishing style of yoga that focuses on rest, relaxation, and healing. Rooted in the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar, this practice uses supportive props and long-held postures to encourage the body and mind to completely let go.

Unlike more dynamic yoga styles, restorative yoga invites stillness. With minimal physical effort, the body is supported in comfortable positions that allow the nervous system to settle and the mind to quieten.

Slow, Supported & Soothing

Classes typically include a small number of carefully chosen postures, each held for several minutes to encourage deep relaxation. Props such as bolsters, blankets, blocks, and straps are used to fully support the body, creating a sense of comfort and ease throughout the practice.

Whether it’s a gentle twist, a supported backbend, or a calming forward fold, every posture is designed to help release physical tension and promote inner calm.

The Benefits of Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga works by activating the parasympathetic nervous system — the body’s natural “rest and digest” response. As the body softens and the breath slows, you may experience:

  • Reduced stress and anxiety
  • Improved sleep quality
  • Relief from fatigue and tension
  • Enhanced healing and recovery
  • Greater emotional balance and wellbeing
  • A deeper sense of calm and clarity

Who Is It For?

Restorative yoga is suitable for everyone, regardless of age, experience, or flexibility. It can be especially beneficial if you are feeling overwhelmed, stressed, exhausted, anxious, or simply in need of time to rest and recharge.

This gentle practice offers space to pause, breathe, and reconnect something many of us need more of in today’s fast-paced world.
